Stephan Bollinger is a storyteller by compulsion, a wordsmith and public speaker by passion, a photographer and a former stage performer, who couldn’t imagine any other calling than the arts.

With a flair for the theatrical, a weakness for metaphors, and a caffeine dependency best described as structural, he has spent a lifetime collecting stories.

Known for turning anything technical into an entertaining journey, Stephan writes the way he speaks, with curiosity, humour, unexpected detours and the occasional sentence that arrives nowhere. And he’s ok with that. He believes the best stories are rarely the loudest ones. More often they are found tucked inside ordinary objects, overlooked moments, a collection of old cameras perhaps, that have seen and witnessed far more than anyone ever intended.

Whether teaching photography, speaking to an audience, or writing about history, his goal remains the same. Make people think, and leave them looking at the world just a little differently than before.

Stephan is convinced that everything and everyone has a story. His research is relentless, the footnotes real, and counting on forty years experience in front and behind cameras, his tangents are amusingly intentional.

Hand Stephan a dry fact and he will look for the forgotten or overlooked, to revive their story with respect, the quirk of a grown-up child, and a subdued amount of colourful fanfare.
